GPS Systems Send Transport Fleets Into 21st Century

March 3rd, 2010

The newest technology in Sat Nav devices is providing lots of companies with information they previously could only dream about. Sat Navs and GPS tools of old could only let the driver know about their locations, which directions to take and speed etc. This is the kind of data that can now be read on a computer screen on the other side on the globe, making everyone’s job easier. A taxi company or travel company for instance would benefit enormously. Lets look at the main advantages of these GPS systems

Speeding. The velocity of the vehicle has previously just been for eyes of the driver but now the bosses can see too. The intensity of the breaking and acceleration of the vehicle can also be monitored on some models. This helps companies establish who is driving well and within the law, and who maybe needs more driving training

Petrol. Stats released by Jump The Sun show that drivers, especially in the taxi business, would claim petrol money from their employers for miles that were covered whilst not on work hours. The tachometer could always be looked at but this only showed the miles traveled and doesn’t say when and where. However, as information such as mileage, time of travel, and exact route can be mapped, its very hard to get away with claiming more petrol money than needed. They can even pick up traffic reports

Location. Knowing the location of each of your team on the road is invaluable for speeder responses. There is no longer a need to call each and every driver to find their location, you can just look at a computer map and send the nearest vehicle to the location.

The Toy of Choice For Driving Fleets

June 21st, 2009

The newest technology in Sat Nav devices is providing lots of companies with information they previously could only dream about. Vital information such speed, directions and location could only be relayed the the driver of the vehicle with old GPS models. New newest devices however can relay this information to a computer anywhere in the world and this is very usually for business that has fleets of vehicle out on the road. A taxi company or Ford van leasing business for instance would benefit enormously. Lets examine exactly what these tools can tell companies

Speeding. The velocity of the vehicle has previously just been for eyes of the driver but now the bosses can see too. A number of the top devices even tell you if the vehicle is being accelerated or braked too hard. This is great for reducing poor driving standards among the fleet and promoting safe practice

Petrol.  Before GPS there was always a risk that drivers, especially in the van leasing trade, would claim petrol money from their employers for miles that were covered whilst not on work hours. Minimal information could be taken from the tachometer but it was very difficult to prove that the miles were not covered in work time. There is now no room for argument though as bosses can see what miles were covered, on which roads and at what time of the day. The latest traffic information can also be fed into them

Location. Knowing the location of each of your team on the road is invaluable for speeder responses. Calls don’t now have to put out to all drivers to discover their current position, the operator can simply check their computer and dispatch the vehicle which is closest.
