Don’t Drown Your Music – Get A Waterproof MP3 Player!

December 3rd, 2009

If you like to be active and surf or swim (or work up a real sweat for that matter), consider getting yourself a waterproof MP3 player. There are a few options out there, but they seem to be rather limited in number. However, there are cases also available that can turn iPods into waterproof MP3 players.

Water, Water Everywhere…

A chief complaint among reviews of most of these MP3 players is poor sound quality, but one has to make a trade-off if they want to listen to their tunes while kayaking, swimming, or diving. Keep in mind that you probably don’t want to use a waterproof MP3 player outside of the water or make it your primary MP3 player.

That being said, Oregon Scientific may have just what you’re looking for. For example, they produce the Oregon Scientific MP120/BL512C 512MB Waterproof MP3 Player with FM Tuner. It has a rather anemic 512MB of memory, so make sure to put your favorite tunes on this puppy. On the plus side, it does come with FM radio (as indicated by its name) and an equalizer with five presets.

According to its specs, it’s waterproof to a depth of one meter for 30 minutes total. The reviews weren’t that great as far as sound goes, but if you really need to mix watersports and music it’s one of the few choices out there. There is also a cheaper 256MB version and 1GB version as well. You may want to shop around, as one site listed the 1GB version as cheaper than the 512MB version.

Another option is the Finis SwiMP3, a waterproof MP3 player that actually uses bone-conduction technology to produce sound. User reviews gave it a good rating, but you wear the unit on the back of your head. This means access to the controls is nearly impossible unless you stop whatever it is you’re doing to adjust them.

On the other hand, the user reviews were generally positive and indicated that sound quality was pretty good for a waterproof MP3 player. Other than the memory size, which is not anything to shout about, exact specs were in short supply. It currently comes in a 256MB version, which is double the original 128MB version. It lists for a retail price of $189.99.

Your other option is to waterproof your iPod like the line of cases from H20 Audio, which includes cases for your video iPod, second or first generation Nano, or Shuffle. They even have special cases for scuba diving so you can take your tunes to even greater depths. Check these options and more out online!

Microsoft mp3 and the Future of Players

September 18th, 2009

Microsoft entered the realm of mp3 players recently and challenged the reigning player provider Ipod and Microsoft’s mp3 player has begun the change in the race to meet the need of these companies to dominate the mp3 player market. Microsoft has developed the Zune player and it was intended to revolutionize the mp3 player. With its larger screen and music transferability capability the Microsoft mp3 player Zune has the ability to take over the mp3 market.

Micorsoft’s bid to dominate

No matter what you think of Microsoft and its intent, one can not deny the fact that observation has allowed Microsoft to develop products and meet the needs of the community. Microsoft’s bid to enter the mp3 market later than most is mostly due to its need to observe the needs and to make the best product available to the public. Microsoft mp3 players were developed to interface with each other and to allow the users to share their favorites and with the ease of operation of the Microsoft mp3 player it could easily dominate the market in the future.

Microsoft has definitely upped the ante for many of the players out there and while still learning from their mistakes as well as those of the competition, Microsoft has made a great company from developing programs and equipment that continues to advance with each evolution of its product. While still new in the mp3 market place Microsoft is a force to be reckoned with and will definitely be a player to watch in the future.

Microsoft mp3 players are going to be a driving force in the mp3 market since they are great for marketing new products and updating their product line to continue in the mp3 product market. While their attempt to challenge the leader of the market, Apple’s Ipod, Microsoft is well on the way to meet this challenge with the Microsoft mp3 player Zune.

Microsoft’s mp3 player Zune is only available from select online retailers and reviews are sparse for the player. Yet viewing the site for the Microsoft mp3 player you can compare the abilities of the Zune compared to other comparable mp3 players the biggest thing is the screen which is not comparable to any thing out there. Microsoft will definitely have to continue to step up and challenge the market with its mp3 player and looking at reviews Microsoft has a lot of updates in the pipeline to continue users to upgrade and download those new updates.

Digital MP3 Player: Keeping Up With The Rapid Advancement Of Technology

August 24th, 2009

The rapid advancement in technology often has people confused. A few weeks after a new technology is introduced into the market, an upgrade of such technology is already underway that if you happen to be one of those people who have just bought a certain type of gadget like a digital MP3 player, there is a big possibility that in just a matter of weeks of months, your hi-tech gadget could already be obsolete. What is worst sometimes is that some people have just heard about this cool new digital mp3 player but when they go to the stores and ask for it, they would already be told that what they are looking for is already obsolete and out of production. However, the good news is, a new and more advance version of that digital MP3 player could already be out in the market so you end up with a better version.

What Is A Digital MP3 Player?

MP3 is an acronym for MPEG (Motion Pictures Experts Group) layer 3, which is a program that compresses audio files without altering the quality of the sound therein. To play your PM3 file, you will need a digital MP3 player that will read the compressed file and translate it into sound. Most digital MP3 players are handheld and very portable. In fact, there are some digital MP3 players that are just the size of an average human being’s thumb. Since a digital MP3 player is built up to handle large amount of files, you can store up to 1,000 songs inside your small digital MP3 player.

What is more exciting about a digital MP3 player is that it is compatible with your computer. If you are one of those people who love to download music online & store it in you’re your computer, you can just transfer the music to your MP3 player. Unusually, it would just take a few minutes to transfer your music from your computer to the MP3 player.

Choosing The Right Digital MP3 Player For You

There are many types MP3 players available in the market today. If you want to buy a MP3 player, you can easily find a player that will suit your needs and your lifestyle. For instance, if you are one of those people who travel a lot in your car everyday, find a light and high capacity MP3 player, which can give you continuous music for several hours.

2GB MP3 Players – Going From Alphabet Soup to Listening to Music

August 11th, 2009

When online shopping for a music player, how do you know if a 2GB MP3 player is right for you? Sometimes all the letters and numbers make it a bit of a headache, along with deciding which compression rates to use for your MP3s. If you don’t have a lot of CDs or buy your online sparingly, a 2GB MP3 player will probably be adequate.

How Much Is Actually Enough?

Depending on the compression rate and format, your storage capacity may vary. The average 2GB MP3 player like the iPod Nano will hold about 500 songs in the proprietary AAC format at a rate of 128 kbps. Regular MP3 songs are generally compressed at a rate of 128 kbps as well. There are several other music formats like ATRAC3Plus from Sony, and the compression (or encoding method, if you prefer) also has an effect on battery life.

If 500 songs is not enough, then you’ll have to upgrade from a 2GB MP3 player to something larger, especially if you want photo and video storage. That being said, here are a few 2GB MP3 players that you might enjoy. There is, of course, the aforementioned iPod Nano.

It's undeniable that iPod has done an excellent job with the aesthetics and design. In general, iPods are thin, sleek, and elegant - the Nano is no exception. The 2GB version retails for an affordable $149.95. More unusual (and cooler looking) may be the Mobiblu Cube2, which is basically the smallest video-capable 2GB MP3 player around – just compare it to a Nano.

This player is incredibly cute, if somewhat awkward to use due to its tiny size. However, just take a look at one, and you'll fall in love with it! It has a bright OLED display and retails for around $119.95 (great compared to a Nano). The menu navigation may be a bit difficult to master, but the Mobiblu Cube2 plays video, stores photos, and has a FM radio (plus recording capabilities).

It also has seven graphic equalizer presets that are customizable. And it plays several different formats, including MP3 and OGG. Another choice is from memory giant Sandisk with its Sansa e200 series of MP3 players. They're thicker, heavier, and less elegant than a Nano. However, the e200 series players include microSD slots that allow you add 2GB of extra memory if you so desire it. It has features similar to the Mobiblu Cube2, with FM radio and so forth.
