Why Those With A Driving Licence Must Continue To Drive Carefully

February 22nd, 2010

A startling statistic of the deaths on British roads attributes dangerous driving to nearly all of the seven deaths that occur each and every day. This problem is now being looked at by the government in the hopes that they can do something to solve it. In December 2009 the justice secretary Jack Straw indicated that there could now be a maximum of five years in prison imposed on those found guilty of dangerous driving. The maximum at the moment is two years in prison.

A lot of people just assume that it is only those young newly qualified drivers that are guilty of dangerous driving. However there are many drivers who have been found guilty of dangerous driving that have had their driving licences for a long time. Many experienced drivers pick up bad habits over the years and would more than likely fail to obtain a driving licence if they had to take a test now.

But if you are concerned about the driving of a friend, family member or even yourself, you can avail of courses specially designed for those with full licences. Courses have been organised by the IAM (Institute Of Advanced Motoring in London. Bad driving habits can be assessed and there are lessons available too which can help.

The fact that a lot of us would now fail a driving test if we had to take one would surprise many. Once people have obtained their full driving licence, they tend to forget to look in the mirror as often as required and are less careful about their speed. It is not only important that you check your mirror when turning, but it should also be checked when slowing down or speeding up. Being extra vigilant can of course save lives. Because how many of us would actually pass our tests if we had to take one now?

If you are looking for a driving related job, any potential employer is well withing their right to do official checks to the type of license you hold . Driving licence verification is something which you should take very seriously indeed. Don’t try applying for specific driving jobs without first holding the appropiate license.

Driving at night and the dangers of doing so

December 6th, 2009

The difference is as obvious as comparing night and day, or 9am to 9pm. Many driving schools now incorporate night driving as part of their driving lessons, and for those driving students who have not done this, the following article will lay out what these differences are.

For a learner driving to be behind the wheel at night can be risky. The difference is so great that there is a major difference in the numbers of people involved in accidents that occur during the day and night.

Belive it or not, there is more to this than the obvious fact of it being dark. While driving at night, you may not be conscious of the fact there are many things that can lead to an accident during these night hours.

Fri. and Sat. nights are far more dangerous to your safety than any other day of the week. This is as there’s more traffic on the roads. The risks in driving at night, besides being totally unable to see as much as you would in the day are 10 fold.

It’s tough to spot dangers that can appear on the road. Your reaction time is delayed during the night and it is much harder to spot obstacles such as pedestrians at this time. There are some fundamental things you can check for before driving during the night and this will ensure you reduce the chances of being involved in a dangerous accident.

To get to where you need to be, plan your trip accordingly so you do not have to say how you got lost in the dark. It may sound silly but believe it or not, many people forget to turn their lights on. Often it’s the simplest of things like this which can lead to being involved in an accident

Drive at a speed which you feel most comfortable with and do not concern yourself with arriving late. If you are still a learner driver, arrange your driving lessons to occur during the evening so you can gain this much needed experience or ask a family member if this is not possible.

How to find an affordable driving school

December 6th, 2009

When thinking about driving lessons, there are one or two concerns to remember before selecting a driving school. First and most important of all, you must find out if the driving school you are calling are licensed to provide driving lessons.

It is important that you learn from a driving instructor who is recent on the prevailing “rules of the road” and is qualified to direct learner drivers like yourself. This is crucial as learning the incorrect rules could lead to failing your driving test or fines.

Simply because someone is ready to drive, doesn’t mean that they are appropriate to offer you driving lessons. Finding an affordable yet licensed driving instructor is the best decision you can make.

Pick up the phone and try giving a driving school a call. Be respectful and friendly, ask about their driving instructor experience. You should ask if they’re qualified to teach and if this is so, how long have they been operating their driving school. What’s their achievement and student pass rate like? When you speak to your driving instructor, try to gain an understanding of their traits and personality and try to grasp if you think they would make you feel comfortable taking driving lessons with them. It’s important to find a driving school you will feel comfortable and build rapport with.

Next, you need to ask about an appropriate time to make a booking for a driving lesson. Having a lesson at different hours of the day will help in preparing you for driving in all conditions. It can be very tricky to schedule a driving lesson around this, so be sure to ask a family member if the chance arises.

It is better to gain the experience of driving in the rain with a driving instructor rather than on your own but if this is not possible, ask a trusted friend or family member.

Even something as simple and straightforward as driving around the streets of your local area can help in understanding what it is like to drive in different areas. It’s imporant you should learn to drive in varying conditions.

Many follks over the years pick up bad driving habits and because of this it is always best to take your driving lessons within a driving school that is qualified to teach.

Nowadays it is very hard to afford much of the luxuries we used to take for granted a few years ago.
