What Does The Colour Of Your Car Say About You?

December 5th, 2009

People choose different coloured cars for different reasons. They might have a long-term preference or they may have found their dream used car only available in a couple of colours, so they don’t have much choice! With this in mind, here is a handy guide to understanding what the colour of your car says about you.

Black – it is true that the most popular car colour is black. The Vectra, which is a popular choice in used Vauxhall cars, seems to be mostly seen in black that indicates its true executive style. It is true that black is the choice for those that like things to look expensive. Having said this, some analysts would say that black cars are for people that just want to blend into society as black doesn’t really stand out.

Red – red cars have seen a new found popularity. People who choose red cars like to be bold and make a statement with their car choice. You can’t deny that red cars are driven by confident people. It is a very fresh and modern colour that is frequently the colour of choice for used Vauxhall Corsa buyers. Of course, it is personal preference at the end of the day, but red is certainly making waves in the world of cars.

Silver – this is by far one of the most universal car colours. It not only looks good, but it will hide a multitude of sins. If you get your car scratched slightly then it is likely that it won’t make much of a dent. Most car drivers would agree that this bodes well, especially for new drivers that might have a few prangs to start with. In addition to this, silver looks exclusive and is quite a glamorous colour. People who drive silver cars like their motors to stand out just enough to get people to notice them. Confident drivers will generally opt for silver.

Save Money With Used Cars

December 5th, 2009

Buying used cars doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality. Buying used actually means you will save lots of money on the vehicle itself and also insurance, which can sometimes be very costly.

Credit Crunch Insurance

In most cases, the older the car then the cheaper the insurance. Do bear in mind that this rule doesn’t apply to someone who wants a vintage Porsche as the insurance actually goes up, but a used Vauxhall car like a Corsa will be very affordable indeed. Saving money any way you can is important during the recession, and any used Vauxhall car is cheap to run. Cars are expensive though and people don’t often consider all the extras when they buy a car for the first time. However, when you buy used cars you can rest assured that the insurance is going to cost much less for you.

Tax On The Cheap

It doesn’t matter if you pay tax every 6 months of annually, the costs can still mount up. If you have a new car then the tax will be more. With old, used Vauxhall cars though, you won’t be paying half as much as someone with a brand new car. The cost of tax varies, but if you can save money with a used car then it is much easier on the recession-hit bank balance.

Of course, people still need to use their cars for everyday things but they certainly don’t want the costs to cripple them. Cash-strapped car drivers are therefore much more inclined to buy a used car, or look at used Vauxhall cars, rather than head to a new car dealership. More people are choosing old over new, and some are even selling their new car promptly so they can afford something much cheaper, as they realise that new cars eat away at the bank balance.

What people need to realise is that buying a car isn’t just a one-off cost and there are many more things you have to take into consideration. Insurance and tax are just two very important essentials of car ownership, so any way you can reduce the costs is favourable. Always buy used Vauxhall cars if you want a great deal.

Homemade Radar Jammer

August 16th, 2009

Many car drivers  will purchase a radar detector when wishing to make better time on the open highway. However this gadget will not work against a gun type radar device in which the radar signal is not present until the highway patrol has you car in his sights and pull the trigger. Then it is too late to slow down.

Continuously  jamming any radar signal with a microwave radar signal broadcast from your automobile is the best way. I have tested this idea with the cooperation of a local patrol officer and found that his gadget displayed random numbers when my  automobile approached him. One can make a low power radar transmitter surprisingly simply.

When encased in the proper size resonator, a special semiconductor named a Gunn diode will generate microwaves when hooked up to 5 to 10 voltdc. To gain this voltage inside your car, an 8 to 3 terminal regulator can be used. Correct construction and fine tuning your radar jammer can be difficult, if not in the possession of good measuring equipment for microwaves. Police officer radars usually operate on the K band at 22 GHz. or generally on the X band at 10.525 GHz. Motion detectors and alarms using microwaves (seen above automatic opening doors, etc.).525 ghz.

These little gadgets work great as jammers. If you can’t get any in your area write to Microwave Associates in Burlington, Mass. and ask for info on “Gunnplexers” for ham radio use. The component may be mounted in a box made of plastic – on the dashboard, or alternatively it can be mounted externally, so long as it is in a weathproof enclosure. Switch on the Jammer as soon as you hit the highway.

Usually, this gadget will not jam the cop’s detectors that face to the rear, or the side of the patrol vehicle. Drivers  using radar detectors in front of you will hit their brakes as you come up to bridges, large signs or anything large and flat which is facing you. The signal produced by your jammer is bouncing off the things and setting off their radar detectors.

Essentially, these wee jammers are a fantastic way to beat a speeding ticket.

Thrifty Car Rental – A Simple Guide

August 8th, 2009

Car rental companies have some interesting names.  Names like Budget and Dollar give renters the impression of low cost, a great deal, while names like Enterprise engender smart business.  But no name is better than that of Thrifty car rental.  Thrifty, as a word, is the ultimate in wise money decisions.  So when people are looking for cars to rent, there’s no better decision than to save money, spend it wisely and only when necessary.  In other words, to be thrifty.

Thrifty car rental began in the car rental business way back in 1958.  It offered stock in the 1980’s before being purchased by Chrysler in 1989.  It was later combined with Dollar, another car rental company.  Thrifty operates today as one of the largest car rental companies and one of the best known brand names in the world.  The majority of its fleet is, as expected, Chrysler cars including both Dodge and Jeep.

Thrifty does some other things outside car renting.  It’s a car seller too, for its older fleet cars.  The first impression of such cars is they would be in bad shape, long abused by people who only drive them for a short time.  But in general the Thrifty rental fleet is treated well by renters.  Dealerships may be full of used cars from people who didn’t maintain them, while Thrifty cars are cared for on a clock work schedule.  Furthermore, penalties for damage encourage rental car drivers to take extra special care of the car while in their charge.  Thus, cars sold by rental companies tend to be in better overall condition than used cars from private owners.

Another business Thrifty car rental operates is long term airport parking.  Travelers who drive to the airport often need a safe place to keep their car while they’re out of town.  Long term parking offers this facility at a reasonable price.  Thrifty cars rental operates these facilities at airports all around the world.

Back to the history of Thrifty, there are some pretty interesting aspects.  Thrifty originally rented Volkswagen Beetles at a time when they weren’t too common in the United States.  The Beetle cost $6 a day to rent.  In the wild and wacky 60’s Thrifty took advantage of the general playboy mentality with Miss Thrifty.  This was a lady, usually young and pretty, who would drive customers to Thrifty’s off airport facilities.  Even better, she wore Scottish plaid.

Thrifty car rental is a serious subject.  But as with many companies it has its quirky side too.  Maybe wear a little plaid next time you rent from Thrifty.  Maybe they’ll offer a rental discount.

Used Audi TT - Find A Special Offer!

June 11th, 2009

I, much like an increasing proportion of consumers in the current economic climate, have reverted to buying Used Cars rather than new cars. There are two main reasons for this altered trend. The first is that naturally, Used Cars are incredibly cheaper than buying new. Secondly, the depreciation costs as soon as you drive a new car away from the dealership are too harsh for most car drivers to bear. Hence, the Used Car market is experiencing something of a boom and I am happy to say that I have joined in.

After many hours research and viewing owner reviews on the web, I decided that a great car for me would probably be the Audi TT. The Audi TT is essentially a relatively powerful sports coupe with an abundance of power from the V6 engine. Some have described the Audi TT as a jet-powered rollerskate, but to me it represented so much more. The stylish Audi TT seems to have been designed for those who like to be seen and noticed and I guess I would class myself in that category.

However, this kind of luxurious motor doesn’t come cheap first hand, so I began to scour the Used Audi market for something a little more affordable. After minimal searching I discovered Sytner Used Audi Dealerships located up and down the country. Their website displayed a superb number of extraordinarily priced Used Audi models which seemed like the kind of value I had been angling for.

A short visit to Sytner Used Audi later and I was test driving a nearly new Used Audi TT, which to be completely honest, ticked all my pre-requisite boxes. I paid my money and drove my Audi TT home, proving how easy it is to find a fantastic car with very little effort.
