The biggest changes to the new Taurus with options of three different sizes of tires and wheels available, along with a lowered roof line and  2” wider than last years framework for better handling and a smoother ride. Makes this Ford Taurus an unbelievable match-up for its competitors.Even with the new Ford Taurus sitting just over an inch lower than last year, it still sits 61 inches in height and is 76” wide. With that being said, this new Taurus is a beast when compared to BMW’s M5 Series or even the 300C by Chrysler.

The SHO design of the Ford Taurus has a very distinctive look while giving you much more muscle than looks, if you know what I mean. Only the C-pillars and deck lid host the SHO signature, also front bumper LEDs have silver trim as a replacement for the black ones which are featured on the cheaper models. Which American Truck Should Be Parked In Your Driveway?

January 27th, 2010

Right now every automaker form Japan to Detroit is hurting to sell or unload their 2009 models. Detroit over produced their full size trucks and are offering huge incentives if you buy now. Ford and GMC are offering zero percent interest, Ford for forty-eight months and GMC for sixty months. Ford is offering an insurance program that will pay your payments for one year if you lose your job. Dodge is a part of the recently bankrupt Chrysler and is offering huge incentives with cash back and zero percent interest. They are all also willing to sell for base invoice price or close to it. Making this the best time ever to buy, assuming you can get the approval for the loan or have the twenty to forty thousand dollars to spend.

Ford has the all time best selling full sized pickup and vehicle, the Chiltons Ford F150 Manual. For the last twenty-three years the F150 has been the best selling vehicle in the United States. It is hard to find a bad review for a new or used one. It has been redesigned for the 2009 model year and boy did they go all out. It is designed to be able to run a small business from it, they have added wi fi, an invoice printer, and hanging file storage. On top of that it has a more powerful engine, better transmission and stronger frame giving it the capability to out tow its competition. The Ford F150 is highly customizable giving it a wide price range of twenty one thousand dollars for the basic all the way up to thirty eight thousand dollars. The gas station is where you make your second payment for this beast, it only gets 14 mpg city and 19 mpg highway.

The Chiltons Chevrolet Silverado Manual comes in 2nd to the Ford F150. But it is hard to find a bad review or owner who does not praise the truck. It rates very high for reliability, performance, safety and resale value. The Silverado has a regular Cab, Extended Cab, and Crew Cab option with a choice of three different box sizes. For 2009 Chevrolet chose to focus most of its new upgrades to the exterior adding flares for the back wheels, bigger headlights, and grille. It also has a wide range of trim options giving a wide spread of prices from the basic nineteen thousand dollar to the fully loaded forty one thousand dollar top end model. It is a gas-guzzler getting 14 mpg city and 19 mpg highway.

The Dodge Ram Chiltons Manual has a strong history and very loyal following amongst owners. It is probably the most attractive of the three but let’s face it your not buying one of these thirty thousand dollar trucks because of the way it looks. It comes with a coil over suspension giving it the best ride in its class and giving it a car like ride. It has mediocre reviews from the automotive world getting average or lower than average marks for safety and performance but where it gets very low marks is for reliability. The all new Dodge Ram can be purchased for twenty five to fort five thousand dollars making it the highest priced of the three. Its gas mileage is nothing to be proud of getting 14 mpg city and 19 highway.

If you are going to buy a full size pickup truck, make sure you need it for work or work. These things can add a second car payment to your budget with the gas the bill. Make sure to bring along a mechanic and automotive repair manuals if you are buying a used one, for $100 you can save yourself a nightmare of thousands later.

Driving cross country to California

October 12th, 2009

Those among us lucky enough to be around in the 70s when this fantastic automobile came out drool whenever we consider it.  Imagine getting a vehicle from the factory with a 455 cubic inch engine in it!This car kicked butt!  Then if you probably did some work, like we did to ours, as in having the engine blue outlined, balanced and a ton more, it did even better.  Let’s just say it was doing much better then one hp per cubic inch!

This was the era of Smokey and the Bandit movies.  Good ole boy Burt Reynolds drove a black Trans Am in the film and everybody and his uncle all of a sudden wanted one.  Naturally, by that time the ones they were selling were watered down versions with no where close to the power of the first ones.

Since we’re not sure of the statute of restrictions, let’s just say that any stories are thought to start’Once upon A Time’.

One of our fave stories is when we were getting onto sunrise road late one evening and a Camaro rolled up next to us and started revving his engine, well you can imagine the rest. Here was a poor soul who had not a clue of what was in store.  Since we don’t believe in street racing, it definitely was a good thing we were both going onto the entrance ramp.  Once we were satisfied that no one was on the parkway at that point of night, we let the Beast Out To Play.  We never did see any more then his fading headlights.

One of the funniest moments was when we lived in upstate NY and my husband went to the store to pick something up and this man in a Mustang 2 pulled up next to him and my man had a good time ( hey, we are all titled sometimes ).  As Chuck tells it : You see at that point a local car dealer was running a television spot featuring a Mustang 2 just destroying a Trans Am.  So this gentleman pulls up next to me, gunning his engine for all he’s's worth.  The light changes, he chirps his tires and flashes me an enormous grin as he’s taking off.  Well, I idle away from the light, give it sufficient gas in first to tug even with him, then drop the hammer, lighting up both tires, throw second, light them up again and then ease off.  Drive down the line to the store.

When I come out of the store this man has finally got there and is waiting for me and says,’but the commercial claims Mustangs will beat the pants off the Trans Am.’ I extraordinarily blithely responded,’Not this Trans Am!’

They don’t make them like this anymore.  It’s downcast when you concentrate on it!  Those of us who lived and grew up in the age of the muscle cars, street rods, Sat. night cruise nights were very, very lucky.  I feel sorry for the youth of today that they missed out on all of this.

So what has happened to that great 455 Trans Am, sadly the oppressive upstate NY winters are not kind to automobiles and rust took the Trans Am from us.  However, we probably did replace it – with a customised 1973 Vette, which we drove cross country to California, but that is a full nother story!

Do you know which cars are super fast and are among the fastest cars in the world? Visit thesupercars.org to view all the fast and exotic cars. Also take a look at Pontiac Trans Am auctions.

Unique Motorbike Leathers

May 13th, 2009

Do you think of yourself as a full on serious biker? You’ve been riding your hog for years and you know how to handle the beast. It feels great to ride a motorcycle but it is even better when you stand out from the crowd as a real biker. You really only have one choice and that is to invest in some custom bike leathers. Custom leathers that is.

Motorbike leathers are an essential part of the biker philosophy. Your choice of leathers will say a lot about you as a biker. If you only ride at the weekends or just now and again then maybe custom leathers aren’t for you.

If you want to be taken seriously then you owe it to yourself to invest in a custom made leather jacket. It is a great feeling as you ride slowly through a busy town centre knowing that you stand out from the crowd and look awesome in your custom motobike leathers.

If, or rather, when you choose to buy custom motorbike leathers you absolutely must locate a quality tailor that is approachable and has a portfolio of previous work. There is no point trying to get across your designs by telephone, fax or even email. Why not start a scrapbook to keep images of leathers you like and you can then create something unique from them. Create a scrapbook of design elements, photographs or anything that you like and arrange at least two meetings with the creator of your motorbike leathers.

If your tailor will not do this for you then find someone else. I can virtually guarantee that without this all important aspect of meeting them to discuss the design you be disappointed in some way with the final result.

Customised leathers are far more expensive than your regular motorbike leathers. Don’t waste your time or your money on a tailor who meets you to measure your dimensions but will not take the time to listen to your design requests. In short, take your designs and go somewhere else.
